As aerospace and defense technology advances, manufacturers need to find ways to incorporate more features without simply making planes larger, heavier, and increasingly more expensive. This is why the size, weight, power, and cost (SWaP-C) is often a driving factor for aerospace and defense companies when awarding contracts to component manufacturers.

As a specialty component manufacturer, we at Knowles Precision Devices understand the importance of SWaP-C. We offer microwave products specifically tailored to help aerospace and defense manufacturers focus on SWaP-C.

Aim

Characteristics of Our Approach

System Impact

Size and Weight

  • High K
  • Temperature Status
  • Reduced form factor filters for dense TRUs
  • Frequency-stable filters to 125°C for dense TRUs in harsh environments

Power

  • Low Loss
  • SMT Packaging
  • Improved noise figure and efficiency
  • Filter closer to element improves channelization and efficiency

Cost

  • High Precision Thin Film Lithography
  • SMT Packaging
  • Repeatable filters for no-tune assembly of mmWave systems
  • Standard SMT manufacturing

Because of our focus on SWaP-C, Knowles Precision Devices was recently awarded a multimillion-dollar contract by BAE Systems to produce microwave products to support the Department of Defense’s F-35 Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) program.

Under the contract, we will manufacture filters to be used in electronic warfare products. Production of the filters will take place at our manufacturing facility in Cazenovia, NY over a 21-month period from August 2019 to April 2021.

As a result of this contract, we are now hiring for multiple engineering and manufacturing positions in our Cazenovia facility. We are a quickly growing and profitable division of Knowles Corporation, with 1200 employees worldwide. Interested in joining our team?
